A couple were tied up by a gang of burglars during a break-in at their Crawley home.

Police said the pair had been out on Monday evening (March 13) and returned to their home in Buckswood Drive at about 8pm.

They found a patio door had been smashed and as they went inside they were grabbed by four men.

Police said the men forced them to open a safe, containing jewellery, watches and a large quantity of cash.

They were then tied up in a bathroom, but managed to escape after the men left.

The men are described as all being white, wearing masks and gloves. They spoke in broken English and to each other in a language that the homeowners were not able to identify.

Police said the couple were not injured.
