Girl bitten in ‘nasty unprovoked’ attack

A teenage girl was bitten on the face in what police described as a “nasty unprovoked” attack in Crawley.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the assault on the 17-year-old which took place in Horsham Road on Friday (July 11).

A spokesman for Sussex Police said the girl needed hospital treatment after receiving a bite to her cheek as she was walking home near to the level crossing and opposite the Casbah Food shop.

The attack happened between 8.30pm and 9pm.

PC Jim Lee, of Crawley Police, said: “We would like to speak to anyone who witnessed this assault.”

He added: “It was a nasty unprovoked attack that has left the victim feeling very upset and in pain.”

Officers have arrested an 18-year-old man, from Crawley, on suspicion of assault.

He was questioned and bailed until Monday August 25.
