Intruders break in through roof and steal £40k from Crawley arcade


Burglars broke into a town centre arcade and made off with an estimated £40,000.

The owner of Bensons Amusement Centre, in The Broadway, Crawley, has handed CCTV footage to Sussex Police of three men looting the arcade after gaining entry through the roof in the early hours of February 22.

Father-of-two Paul Scurr, who runs the arcade with his wife, Livia, said the burglars caused around £30,000 worth of damage to games machines.

Mr Scurr said he spent approximately £4,500 to upgrade his alarm systems in his three arcades.

The centre reopened today (Wednesday March 5).

A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said: “Police were called at 7.15am on Saturday, February 22 to report an amusement arcade had been broken into.The arcade on The Broadway in Crawley was broken into around 1am on February 22.

“Around 16 games machines had been forced open causing thousands of pounds of damage and around £40,000 was estimated to have been taken.”
