The A23 was briefly closed at Hickstead yesterday (Sunday November 1) due to a man threatening to jump from the bridge onto the road below.
Police were called to the dual carriageway at about 9pm after the 30-year-old threatened to jump.
Traffic was stopped either side of the location while a trained police negotiator successfully persuaded the man to leave the bridge.
The man was detained under the Mental Health Act and no one was hurt.
The road was reopened at 10.40pm.
