A man has had part of his ear bitten off during an assault, police have said.

The 18-year-old suffered the injuries following an attack in West Street, Burgess Hill, on Monday July 11.

Police said the victim got into his car and was about to drive off before being attacked at about 11pm.

The suspect also damaged the car before walking off, officers added.

The teenager returned home where relatives took him to the Princess Royal Hospital, in Haywards Heath, for treatment.

A spokesman for Sussex police said he was transferred to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, in Brighton, and has since had a consultation at the Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead.

Detective Constable Gilly Sadler said: “We have already conducted house-to-house enquiries but would welcome any further information about this particularly nasty assault, as a result of which a young man now faces reconstructive surgery to his right ear.”
