According to police, the driver then got out and punched the man several times before getting back in his car and driving off in the direction of Brooklands Way.

Officers remained on scene throughout the night and part of the road was closed until midday today (March 27) in order to secure evidence.

Anyone who was in the area at the time and may be able to assist with police enquiries is asked to contact Sussex Police on 101 quoting serial 1248 of 26/03.
