Police are investigating after a woman reported she was raped.

The 19-year-old was walking from Moka nightclub on Station Way at 3.15am on Saturday (March 8) towards the taxi office on the High Street.

She told officers she walked down Church Walk and was grabbed by a man as she passed the entrance to the St John’s Church and was raped in the churchyard.

Detective Inspector David Springett said: “We are going to speak to the woman again but we are not linking this to any other offences in the town.

“Anyone who can help us with our investigation is asked to contact police on 101 quoting serial 294 of 8/3 or the independent charity Crimestopper anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
