Armed officers who were involved in a ‘stand off’ with a suspected gunman have been stood down, police have said.

The force carried out a pre-planned raid on a home in Careys Road, Smallfield at 6am this morning.

Police said a person was seen in the property with a suspected firearm.

Armed officers along with the police helicopter were called to the scene.

Surrey Police said officers were in a ‘stand off’ with the suspected gunman and cordoned off the area.

A spokesman said: “There is still a police presence in the area but armed response has been stepped down.”

The incident is not believed to be terror related and no hostages were in the property, the spokesman added.
