A woman has been arrested after she boarded a flight from Gatwick with no documents.

Sussex Police was called to the North Terminal just after 7am today (Friday September 4) to a report of a woman boarding the easyJet flight to Tenerife before the departures gate had opened.

A spokesman said: “Airport staff found that she had no ID, no passport and no boarding pass.

“A 51-year-old woman from Germany has been arrested on suspicion of entering a security restricted area without permission and remains in police custody.

“The plane was rescreened for security purposes and all the passengers were allowed to board and continue with their journey.”

easyJet’s flight tracker website stated flight EZY8703 was delayed by more than an hour due to ‘additional security checks’.

The Tenerife South-bound flight was due to leave at 7.30am.
