A woman was punched in the face and another pushed to the ground in attempted handbag snatches.
A police spokesman said a 43-year-old woman fell to the floor after she was punched in the face in Dousters Brook footpath, near Vanbrugh Close, Bewbush, at 9.50pm on Saturday (November 7).
A man in his 20s approached her from behind and attacked her. She fell to the ground and suffered bruising to the face when she resisted his attempts to snatch her bag.
The attacker, who ran off, was described as black, tall and thin, and wore dark clothing.
Detectives have linked the attack with another attempted theft in an alleyway in Colonsay Road, Broadfield at about 3am on the same day.
A man described as black, of medium build with black facial hair and wearing all dark clothing pushed a 30-year-old local woman to the ground after he tried to steal her handbag.
A police spokesman said she was shaken but not hurt.
Detectives reminded residents to take care and remain vigilant when out and about in hours of darkness.
Detective Constable Melanie Fox said; “We have had no other recent reports of incidents of this type.
“Anyone who saw what happened is asked to contact Sussex Police via firstname.lastname@example.org or call 101 quoting serial 188 of 07/11 for the first incident and serial 1480 of 07/11 for the second incident.”
