Don’t leave tools in vehicles overnight, police warn drivers

Drivers have been urged not to leave tools and other valuables in their vehicles overnight following a string of thefts.

A Sat Nav was stolen from a car parked in Holtye Walk, Furnace Green, overnight last Wednesday (February 18). Witnesses can contact police on 101 quoting 0924 of 18/02.

Tools including a drill were taken from a Ford van parked at the Premier Inn, Balcombe Road, between 840pm and 10.40pm on February 18. Witnesses can contact police on 101 quoting 1573 of 18/02.

Rolls of copper, a chopsaw, a Bosch drill and a tool box were stolen from a Ford Transit parked at the Europa Hotel, Balcombe Road, at around 11pm on Thursday (February 19). Witnesses can contact police on 101 quoting 0197 of 19/02.

Electrical testing equipment was stolen from a van parked at Gatwick Manor Hotel, in London Road, Lowfield Heath, between 8pm and 10pm on February 19. Witnesses can contact police on 101 quoting 1412 of 19/02.

There was an unsuccessful attempt to break into a second van parked at the same hotel the following night.

A Bosch drill, Dewalt jigsaw and toolbox were taken from a Sandman Signature van in Tinsley Lane South, Three Bridges, overnight on February 20. Witnesses can contact police on 101 quoting serial 0131 of 20/02.

A Dewalt drill and various other tools were stolen from a van parked overnight in Findon Road, Ifield, on Friday (February 20). Witnesses can call police on 101 quoting serial 0206 of 20/02.

A police spokesman said: “Police strongly advise that all tools are removed from vehicles overnight. Ensure any tools are locked away out of sight or ideally removed from the location. Contractors are also advised to consider CCTV, alarming their storage facilities and on-site security.”
