Polling stations across Crawley are reported to be “busier than normal” as residents vote not only for their choice of MP but also 12 borough councillors.

The polling stations will be open until 10pm and the votes will then be counted at K2 leisure centre.

A spokesman for Crawley Borough Council said a result was expected between 4am and 5am on Friday (May 8) – though it could take longer if the turnout is particularly high.

He added: “We think the polling stations are quite busy and that turnout will be higher than it was five years ago.”

The turnout in 2010 was 65.4 per cent.
