Emergency services attended a deliberate bedroom fire in a Gatwick immigration detention centre.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were called to the centre in Perimeter Road South at 5.57pm on Saturday (January 31).

A spokesman said firefighters used two sets of breathing apparatus and a hose reel to put out the fire, which was started deliberately.

Paramedics treated a person for smoke inhalation.

Firefighters used an extraction fan to ventilate the room and left at 6.33pm.
