Children were treated for smoke inhalation after the car they were in caught fire.

Four fire crews were called to the scene northbound on the A23 between Handcross and Pease Pottage at 6.35pm yesterday (Sunday December 28).

Firefighters and paramedics treated two children, aged nine and 15, and one adult.

A spokesman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said the crews made the car and the roadway safe.
