Fire crews were called to a van blaze on the M23.

Two crews were dispatched to the northbound carriageway just south of junction 10a at Maidenbower at 2.50pm today (Monday June 2).

Simon Constable, green watch commander at Crawley Fire Station, said the Ford Connect van was “totally destroyed” by the fire, which was caused by a fault in the vehicle.

He said no one was injured.

The fire damaged a 10m stretch of 3m tall fencing on the hard shoulder.

Firefighters used two hose reels and breathing apparatus to put out the blaze.

They were in attendance for around 40 minutes.

The incident was left with Highways Agency.
