FOOTBALL: Crawley Town look to bright future
CRAWLEY Town assistant manager Paul Raynor reckons Reds' new youth and reserve team set-up will be vital to the club producing its own talented players.
The club confirmed yesterday (Thursday) that their newly formed reserve team has been accepted into the Totesport.com Combination reserve League.
Reds were voted into the league unanimously by member clubs and will take their place in the Central Division.
Raynor, who assists with the coaching of the additional sides said: "We started at the very top of the club and are now developing the other parts, which is very important for long term success.
"For youth team players to go straight into the first team and play at Blue Square Premier level is too much of a leap.
"We need some middle ground to bring the players further up the ladder.
"Hopefully some local talent will come through and when performances merit, players will be given the chance to join the first team squad.
"The new youth team did fantastically well last year and we have seen players such as Danny Mills, Mithun Nayee, Byron Napper and Max Lake-Edwards playing games in the first team which is a magnificent achievement.
"You can only commend Colin Jenkinson and Richard Munn for doing such a good job."
They will be competing against a very high level of opponents including Football League clubs Aldershot Town, Brentford, Brighton and Hove Albion, Crystal Palace, Gillingham, Leyton Orient, Millwall and QPR.
They will also be adding a new youth team which will play in the British Colleges League and like the existing youth side and Reserve will be run by the club's youth development chief Colin Jenkinson and assisted by Richard Munn.
