The free parking outside the Post Office in The Boulevard has been stopped.

Parking at the site, which was free for up to an hour, is now 75p for 30 minutes and £1.50 for an hour.

Crawley Borough Council manage the area on behalf of West Sussex County Council, which sets the fees.

A spokesman for West Sussex County Council said: “We’ve felt it necessary to introduce these changes to make this section of road safer for everyone and hope people appreciate why this decision has been made, even if they’re not necessarily happy about it.

“Before this was implemented cars would queue along the service road and into The Boulevard, which is a very busy road and would either leave traffic queuing behind the waiting vehicles or encouraging vehicles to use the oncoming lane of traffic to pass waiting vehicles.

“This created significant safety issues.

“No objections were raised about during the statutory consultation period.”
