Fresh new start for Crawley Town

A BRIGHT new future beckons for Crawley Town Football Club after the last ghost of its debt-ridden past was laid to rest this week.

On Wednesday proceedings to wind up the club were formally dropped in the High Court after the last debts from the Majeed era were cleared.

Director Steve Mansell said: "This is because there's a great bunch of people owning and running Crawley Town. It's a great football club and it's going places."

The winding-up petition was dismissed at the request of Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs, which also brought the petition.

Mr Mansell said the outstanding debt had been paid 'a very long time ago' and that the dismissal was a formality.

However, the club's directors refused to comment further on the closure of the proceedings, explaining that the club was moving on and did not wish to dwell on its past.
