More than £400,000 of funding has been made available to community groups across West Sussex.

West Sussex County Council placed £426,000 in the Community Initiative Fund (CIF) pot for 2014/15 on May 20 and local voluntary, community and sports groups are invited to bid for a share.

The East and West Crawley County Local Committees (CLC) will grant CIF to groups in the town during four meetings over the financial year.

At the end of the last financial year, the West Crawley CLC gave £1,000, which had not been handed out, to Crawley’s food bank.

Cllr Bob Lanzer (Con, Maidenbower), WSCC cabinet member for corporate relations, who oversees the CIF, said: “These awards help benefit the wider community in making these groups more sustainable or enable CLCs to run events that would not otherwise be able to take place.

“Local voluntary and community groups will be pleased to hear that another £426,000 of CIF is available again in 2014/15 and I would encourage them to submit an application if they need support for a project in their community.”
