Crawley Town striker Matt Harrold has joined Cambridge United on loan until the end of the season.

The 30-year-old has joined the League Two side in view of getting game time after a disjointed campaign with Reds.

Harrold, who signed at the Checkatrade.com Stadium on a free transfer from Bristol Rovers in the summer, has made just seven starts and netted one goal this season.

The forward, who was put on the transfer list by John Gregory back in November, has not started a game for two months but came off the bench in the closing stages of Saturday’s 2-1 win at Swindon after recovering from a recent Achilles injury.

Reds boss Dean Saunders said: “Matt needs to get games under his belt and this is a good opportunity for him at a level he knows well where he has scored goals in the past. We’ll be monitoring his progress and wish him well at Cambridge.”
