200 gather to celebrate Eid with gift of food
THE Crawley Bangladeshi Welfare Association (CBWA) held its Eid celebrations last week with a get-together in Bewbush.
Eid ul-fitr is the global Muslim cultural event that officially marks the end of Ramadan fasting. It is observed by millions of Muslims around the world with family and community celebrations.
Members of the CBWA welcomed MP Henry Smith and PC Sarah Brewster, of Crawley Police, to their celebration at the Bewbush Centre on September 2.
The event included Islamic poetry, music and singing and the 200 people who attended were treated to a feast of food provided by local restaurants.
The chairman of the CBWA Mr Qayyum Miah said “The aim is simple, to give back to the community and promote community cohesion and set up a support network for all members and families.
“The event was successful and thoroughly enjoyed by all those who attended with entertainment for children and adults. The CBWA promises they will continue their efforts by giving back to the community of Crawley by continuing their Sunday classes teaching children of all ages.”
