A man said his life has ‘turned around’ after losing more than seven stone.

Michael James, 62, from Broadfield, weighed mo re than 24st and said the extra weight left him feeling unwell and unable to walk very far.

Now Michael, who joined Weight Watchers in Broadfield has shifted the weight and was given a certificate at a special ceremony at Broadfield Community Centre last week to mark his achievement.

He said he was now able to walk and ride his bike again.

Michael said: “I was feeling very unwell and unable to walk more than a few yards. Weight Watchers has turned my life around.

“Sharon is an inspiring leader and has really helped me this year. I am now walking miles and cycling everywhere I can to regain my fitness.

“Unfortunately a couple of accidents have set me back on that road involving a week in hospital, a place recommended for weight loss!

“Lastly I cannot praise the team at Weight Watchers enough whose cheerfulness has helped me on my journey which started in February this year.

“I would also like to thank my family for their help and encouragement over the last nine months.”

Sharon Ashborn who runs the Weight Watchers session at Broadfield Community Centre said she was very proud of Michael and his achievement.

She said: “Michael attends the Saturday morning Broadfield meeting and is an absolute star.

“I along with all his very many friends at the group are extremely proud of his commitement and results- a truly remarkable achievement in such a short time- well done Michael.”

Back in October the Observer reported how Amanda Towning from Broadfield had been helped by the group.

She dropped from 16st 12Ib to just 10st 10lb.

Amanda had piled on the pounds after her sister died. She said losing the weight was an emotional experience without her sister there to support her.

Amanda has kept the weight off and now helps Sharon at the weekly Weight Watchers meetings.
