Application to knock down old surgery

The building at the heart of a row over the loss of West Green’s doctors’ surgery has been ear-marked for demolition.

An application has been submitted to Crawley Borough Council’s planning department to demolish the former Leacroft surgery at 117 Ifield Road.

The application – CR/2013/0034/FUL – from Ashcrost Homes Ltd, calls for the demolition of numbers 117-121 to make way for 13 new detached and semi-detached homes.

As well as the four two-bedroom, three three-bedroom and six four-bedroom homes, there would be a new access road, garages, car parking and landscaping.

In 2011, patients and councillors opposed the decision by Leacroft Medical Practice to close the West Green surgery in favour of its Langley Green premises.

Public meetings were called and some patients even held a protest outside the building, but their words fell on deaf ears and the surgery closed on September 30 2011.

Log on to www.crawley.gov.uk to view the application. A decision is expected to be made by May 1.
