Armed robbery at betting shop
An armed robber who threatened staff in a betting shop in Crawley escaped with a bag full of cash on Saturday night (October 6) .
Police are searching for witnesses after a man wearing a balaclava entered Coral Racing shop, in Worth Road, and fired shots with a what is believed to be a BB gun.
The man entered the shop at around 9.30pm and demanded money from the staff which he placed into a red drawstring plastic bag.
The raider fired the gun before leaving in a metallic blue Mark 2 or 3 VW Golf GTI, registration number N270KWT, which was parked outside the betting shop.
Detective Sergeant Steve Tattersall said: “This was a traumatic experience for the staff.
“There were no customers in the shop at the time and we are appealing for anyone who may have seen suspicious activity directly outside it.
“The man is described as white around 30, 6ft of average build with a Crawley accent. He was wearing a grey hoody and a black woolly balaclava.”
