Balcombe Road bomb scare

COPS raided a Horley home looking for Class A drugs and stumbled upon a secret cache of ammunition.

Bomb squad officers responding to a call for back-up swarmed the Balcombe Road property on Saturday (November 1).

Surrey and Sussex police forces searched the house for 40 hours after the 'explosive' find.

Forensics experts, bomb squad officers, sniffer dogs and uniformed Bobbies combed both the front and back gardens of the suburban home and were seen checking nearby drains.

A Surrey Police spokeswoman said: "On Saturday November 1, a search warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act was executed at a property in Balcombe Road, Horley.

"Sussex Police led the search and were assisted by officers from Surrey Police. Quantities of drugs, believed to be class A and class C were found. During the search a significant amount of component parts of ammunition were also found.

"A number of police resources assisted in the search including firearms officers, specialist teams from the Explosive and Ordinance Disposal unit and dog search teams."
