Buchan Country Park, Crawley, has launched a new photo competition.
The theme is ‘Capture Buchan’ and, with people, the environment or wildlife all being possible subjects, the world is your oyster – or at least the park is.
The competition will be judged by park volunteers in two categories – adults and 16 and under.
The winner of the adults’ category will win £40, while the person who takes the best photo in the 16 and under section will receive a trophy.
The winning pictures, along with a selection of the best entries, will be displayed in the Countryside Centre.
Entry costs £1 and pictures should be sent to Buchan Country Park, Horsham Road, Crawley, RH11 9HQ.
The competition closes on Monday, September 1.
Lionel Barnard, West Sussex County Council Cabinet Member for Residents Services, said: “Buchan Country Park’s annual competition always receives some brilliant entries and I’m sure this year will be no different.
“The competition is a great way of seeing some of our beautiful West Sussex countryside in a different light. And with a number of events being held at the park over the coming months, people will have plenty of opportunities to shoot what could be the winning picture.”
The forthcoming events include the popular Bushcraft workshops for all future adventurers.
The Family Bushcraft day in May will teach bush skills like shelter building, fire lighting and campfire cooking.
Tickets are £10.50 per person or £32 for a family (two adults and two children).
The event will take place on Tuesday May 27, between 10am and 3pm, and children must be accompanied by an adult.
Further afield, there is also a ‘Food for Free’ walk along the Worth Way with an expert foraging ranger, providing a chance to pick and try the plants our ancestors used for food and medicine.
The walk takes place on Saturday, May 17 between midday and 2.30pm. Tickets cost £5 per person and children must be accompanied by an adult. Booking is essential.
