Building pride and profit with a five year plan

A business plan for Manor Royal aims to set up CCTV, improve roads and raise its profile.

Manor Royal Business Improvement Development (BID) is an initiative set up by the Manor Royal Business Group (MRBG) designed to allow firms to improve the district to their needs.

BID created a plan prospectus for 2013-2018 by analysing the results from surveys, forums and interviews with business in the group.

Only 13 per cent of businesses said they were satisfied with Manor Royal. Almost a third felt either dissatisfied or very dissatisfied.

Nearly two thirds said Manor Royal had either got worse or stayed the same in the last 12 months.

Two of the main issues discovered were the winter gritting and the condition of roads and pathways.

Steve Sawyer, Manor Royal Business district manager, explained what had been planned to improve this.

He said: “We have spoken to West Sussex County Council to find out what they should do on Manor Royal and found out how much things cost.

“The business group can then decide if the current arrangements are good enough to keep Manor Royal working in the winter and if they decide they are not they can take action.”

Other objectives in the plan are to increase trade and profit, improve business connections, build a sense of community, improve broadband speed and reliability, introduce district wide CCTV and generally improve business pride in the district.

An emphasis has also been put on the importance on improving the reputation and profile of Manor Royal.

This will be done through finding options for shared attendance at trade fair event and by supporting businesses to enter the Business Awards

It is hoped this initiative should help to increase the number of businesses on site.
