A burglar broke into the home of an 89-year-old woman in Crawley while she was sleeping and stole two ornamental canons made by her husband.
Police are appealing for information after the thief stole distinctive items during the break-in between 9.30pm on Friday (January 24) and 8.30am on Saturday (January 25) in Cuckmere Crescent, Gossops Green.
A Sony Bravia TV was stolen along with a bottle of brandy, a 12-inch high castle made of stained black wood and featuring chains for a drawbridge, decanters and glasses, two six-inch shell cases and two small brass ornamental cannon.
Detective Constable Roy Perryman said: “The cannon were made by the victim’s husband and were of great sentimental value.
“They were highly polished and the burglars may have mistaken them for gold.
“I would urge anyone who saw anything in the area or who has seen any of the items being offered for sale to contact us.”
