Call for new firefighters

West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service is looking for people from all walks of life who would be interested in adding “firefighter” to their CV.

Stations across the region, including Crawley and Turners Hill, are looking to take on new retained firefighters to take on duties ranging from tackling fires to rescuing animals.

Retained firefighters already fully crew 14 of the 25 fire stations across the county.

Rob Baker-Johnson, Retained Liaison Officer for Crawley and Mid Sussex, said: “Retained firefighters are ordinary men and women who do an extraordinary job for the Fire and Rescue Service and are integral to keeping their local fire station crewed.

“We are now looking for new retained firefighters to join our retained teams at fire stations across West Sussex. We welcome applications from all sections of the community.

“You just need to live or work within four minutes of the fire station, be over 18 and have a good level of physical fitness.

“If you would like a good extra income, want to experience the thrill of helping others and be part of a highly trained, close-knit and dedicated team, then we’d love to hear from you.”

If you think you have what it takes for this challenging but rewarding career then visit www.westsussex.gov.uk/fire for details of entry standards, types of cover and the application process or call the Contact Centre on 01243 642134.
