A cyclist in training for the London to Brighton bike ride broke his collarbone after he was clipped by a car which stopped briefly and then drove off, say Sussex Police.

The cyclist was hurt on the A264 at Copthorne on Wednesday evening (April 16).

A police spokesman said the 23-year-old man, from Horley, was cycling with a friend at the Duke’s Head roundabout in Copthorne Common Road shortly before 6.25pm when the accident, involving the wing mirror of a black Peugeot, happened.

He was taken to the East Surrey Hospital in Redhill for treatment.

Police want to speak to the driver of the Peugeot.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has information about the car is asked to call Sussex Police on 101 or email collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting serial 1203 of 16/04.
