An environmental charity has been given the lease to run the Walled Garden Cafe, in Tilgate Park.

Crawley Borough Council named Groundwork South, the environmental and social regeneration charity, as the new operators of the cafe last week.

The lease is for seven years with the option to for three more years and began on Monday (March 31).

A council spokesman said Groundwork had plans to introduce a new menu, new opening times, run events, training and other community services from café. Customers will also be invited to take part in a competition to design a logo for the café.

Kristin Sjovorr, development manager for Groundwork South, said: “Our vision is for the Walled Garden Community Café to be a hub for community action, to support the fantastic local growers and for giving young people a taste of what it is like to work in catering and horticulture through our apprenticeship opportunities.”

Opening times for the Easter holidays: 10.30am-4.30pm Monday to Friday, 10.30am-5pm on weekends and bank holidays.
