Charity receives £10k donation

A MUCH needed donation to the former mayor’s charity means worthwhile work to help support Crawley families can continue to thrive despite the financial challenges it faces.

Home-Start Crawley, Horsham and Mid Sussex (CHAMS) offers support to families who have a child under five- years-old where there are issues of isolation, neglect, financial hardship, illness, disability or bereavement.

Gatwick Airport Community Trust donated £10,000 to the charity, based in Broadfield, which scheme manager Liz Roe said was ‘much needed and appreciated.’

She said: “It was quite a considerable grant that we have been given and we are thrilled by it.

“We will be using the money to help us train more volunteers, to help meet the needs of the families that we support.

“We believe it will enable us to open up more opportunities for volunteering.

“We are a local charity based in Crawley and we have to find the money that we need to run our services and so donations like this we are incredibly grateful for.”

Liz said despite the financial climate and the struggles the charity is facing she feels upbeat about its future.

She said: “We feel very positive about the future, we have got a lot of people who are determined to keep the service going.

“We know that we have a challenge ahead of us and we need to find the money to keep going.

“We hope that people will come forward and volunteer or donate to us.”

The charity has been running for almost 15 years and will celebrate its anniversary in two weeks time.

Liz said: “We want to be working to support our families for many years to come.

“We welcome anyone interested in our charity or anyone who would like to be a part of what we are doing to get in touch.

“We would be very happy to hear from them.”
