Children’s charity needs new home
Members of a children’s charity are on the look-out for a new home.
The Crawley Children’s Wish Foundation had been given rent-free premises behind Tilgate Parade in which to store donations and use as a base of operations.
But after a paying tenant was found by Crawley Borough Council, the charity - which was set up by former councillors Lee Gilroy and Ali Burke - was told it would have to move out.
Mr Gilroy, of Broadfield, said: “The council gave us a property and now they’ve evicted us from it. We have to leave in a couple of weeks’ time.”
Donation collections are on hold until new premises can be found.
Mr Gilroy added: “We have to have a bit of security. They have units sitting empty and that’s not good. I know we don’t pay rent but we are helping people.”
A council spokesman said: “We are working with the Crawley Children’s Wish Foundation to find alternative accommodation and are working with other voluntary organisations to see how services can be shared in the longer term.”
If anyone has premises for the charity, contact Lee Gilroy on 01293 531545.
