A church in Horley is getting ready to host a winter night shelter for the second year running.
The Reigate and Banstead Winter Night Shelter (WNS) has been running at different churches in the borough since the beginning of December and from next Saturday (January 18) St Wilfrid’s Church in Horley will host it on Saturday nights until March.
Church warden Margo Slater said: “Most of St Wilfrid’s congregation helped to support last year’s WNS by providing toiletries, towels, games, meals, laundry service and transport.
“Many served as volunteers on the night, preparing meals, welcoming and chatting and with clearing up and others took on the roles of supervisors to make sure everything was done by the rules and ran smoothly.
“We found it a privilege to provide facilities so that men and women did not have to sleep outside during the coldest months of the year – instead of having to cope with rain and snow they enjoyed a meal with new friends and a safe place to sleep.”
There is still time to get involved. Anyone who would like support it in any way can sign up at www.rbwns.co.uk and follow the links to volunteering.
