Cooking duo make it through to sixth round

TWO Crawley women have made it through to the sixth round of a national television cooking competition.

Sarah-Jane Willis, 28, from Bewbush and Cathryn Dresser, 27, from Pease Pottage enjoy whisking up a treat for their families and friends.

But now find themselves battling it out against seven other contestants to become BBC Two’s Great British Bake Off champion.

Each week the duo and their fellow bakers complete challenges to avoid elimination.

Both women managed to stay in the competition last week after putting their cooking skills to the test and baking traditional American Pies.

Everyone struggled with the technical challenge which saw the contestants have to make hotwater crust pastry.

This involved wrapping pastry around a dollie with the aim of chilling it in the fridge.

However this proved easier said than done, as the pastry tore and stuck to the dollies causing disaster for some contestants.

TV cooking legend Mary Berry declared our very own Cathryn the queen of the crust pastry after she crafted a beautiful hand-raised chicken and bacon pie.

Next the contestants had to roll up their sleeves and produce an American Pie of their own creation.

Cathryn came last in the challenge after her pie failed to impress, but along with Sarah-Jane managed to stick it out in the competition after judges selected Manisha to go home.

The duo appeared on the cookery show again last night (Tuesday 18).
