Council looks into alternative voting options

A Scrutiny Panel set up to clarify how councillors vote in Crawley Borough Council meetings will meet next week.

The Recording How Members Vote Scrutiny Panel will meet for the second time on Tuesday (April 1) at 10.30am in Committee Room A at the Town Hall.

Another meeting will take place on Monday April 28 at 10.30am at the same venue.

The panel has been set up in an aim to make counting and recording votes more accurate and clear.

It will investigate alternative methods of vote recording used by other local authorities.

Cllr Brenda Smith (Lab, Langley Green), chair of the scrutiny panel, said: “This panel is looking at how we can improve the voting process at council meetings.

“In recent times some members of the public have not been able to clearly see or hear how councillors’ votes are cast or recorded.

“The aim of the panel is to clarify how and which councillors are voting to ensure openness and transparency in the decision making process.”
