West Sussex County Council has said it hopes to meet with parents of children at Discovery New School following the announcement of its closure.
The free school in Broadfield is run independently of the county council but following the Government’s decision to withdraw its funding from the school, the council remains responsible for the pupils’ education.
The school will close on April 4 and the council will be working with parents to find places for the 68 pupils.
A council spokesman said: “We will work with parents to ensure that school places are found for pupils in accordance with published admission arrangements and we will accommodate parental preference where possible.
“Although we have had no control over this situation, every effort will now be made to try and minimise disruption to children’s education.
“We hope that a meeting for parents can be arranged shortly to discuss options available to them.”
