Council to charge for entry to Tilgate Nature Centre
VISITORS to Tilgate Nature Centre will be charged up to £2 admission per person from March 31 but the Centre will continue to be run by the council rather than an outside body.
The announcement was made following a £7,500 consultation into the running of Tilgate Park, the Nature Centre, Walled Garden, cafe and lakes.
The entry charge will be £2 for over 17s, £1 for 12-16 year olds and 50p for 2-11 year olds. Under twos will be free. There will be no charges in the winter months.
There will be no charge to enter Tilgate Park itself.
Crawley Borough Council said the income will help to contribute towards the £300,000 annual cost of running the Nature Centre.
Visitors using the Fisherman’s car park will be charged £1 per hour up to a maximum of £5 after an initial 30 minutes’ free parking.
Dynamic Adventures, a Crawley-based family-run business, has been chosen to set up a wide variety of water-based leisure activities on Tilgate Lake including sailing, windsurfing and family fishing.
The outdoor adventure company already has a base in Tilgate Park and has been successfully working with local schools, groups and societies over the past few years.
