A family of pet-lovers and musicians will take on a cycling challenge for charity.

Stephen Harris, 41, an accountant, of Home Close, Pound Hill, will cycle the length of the country from Land’s End to John O’Groats in aid of Hounds for Heroes.

His wife, Janet, 47, a veterinary nurse, two sons and two dogs will travel with him in a motor home from August 10 to August 21.

Janet said: “We are quite excited, it’s a bit of an adventure and we’re certainly going to see a lot of country and places we haven’t seen before.”

The family aims to raise £5,000 for the charity which trains dogs to help disabled ex-members of the armed and emergency services.

Janet, a saxophone player for the Crawley Millennium Concert Band, wanted to help ex-servicemen because of its connection with the military.

She said: “There’s quite a lot of ex-military in the band.

“A lot of things we do for the band is for military bands and we’ve played with military bands.”

Her son Jamie, 13, plays the trombone for the band while Luke, 10, plays the trumpet.

Janet said they will cycle up to 20 miles per day throughout the trip.

She added: “I wanted to do something for one of the animal charities as I’m a vet nurse.

“It’s not only my day job, it’s a hobby as well.”

Janet, a former dog trainer, wanted to become a dog trainer for the charity after one of her dogs died.

Her family owned two rescue dogs, a cat, two gerbils, a hamster, two fish tanks and planned to get chickens.
