Crawley bookmakers held up in gunpoint robbery

An armed robbery took place in a town centre betting shop last night (Monday Febuary 19).

A robber threatened staff with what appeared to be a handgun at William Hill on the Boulevard, Crawley, at around 7.15pm.

He made off with £225 cash and no-one was hurt.

Detective Constable Celia MacDonald said; “We would like to hear from anyone who was in The Boulevard or around the town centre at that time and who may have seen this man. We would also particularly like to talk to a man who was a customer in the shop at the time, playing a fruit machine near the front door. He was not involved but left before police arrived without giving his details. He is described as white, aged between 23 and 25, and of average height. He wore a black cap, a khaki coloured hoody with a light top underneath, blue jeans and trainers. After the incident he went to the counter and was handed his winnings before leaving.

“If you are that man, or if you can help in any other way, please call us on 101 quoting serial 1512 of 19/2. You can also call independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
