Crawley firefighters have continued their strike action with a picket line outside the station in Ifield Avenue.
The Fire Brigades Union (FBU) is currently in dispute with the Government over changes to the Firefighters’ Pension Scheme and conditions of service.
Today’s strike (July 16) will end at 7pm and industrial action will continue until Monday (July 21) at the following times:
Thursday July 17 – 6am-8am and 5pm-7pm;
Friday July 18 – 6am-8am and 11pm-10am on Saturday July 19;
Saturday – 11am-1pm and 11pm-1am on Sunday July 20;
Sunday – 5pm-7pm;
Monday July 21 – 6am-8am and 5pm-7pm.
A spokesman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue said: “West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service has robust contingency plans in place in the event of a strike.
“However, during any period of industrial action the service would have fewer resources available and would be prioritising life-threatening incidents such as house fires and road traffic collisions where people are trapped.
“You should still dial 999 in an emergency but you can help by reducing the demand on emergency services, especially during industrial action.
“The message to residents, businesses, and people travelling in West Sussex during any possible strike action is to take extra care.”
