Crawley MP predicts Conservatives will lose control of Crawley Borough Council

Henry Smith MP has predicted the Conservatives will lose control of Crawley Borough Council.

Regarding the voting in the borough elections, Mr Smith said: “I think it was always going to be an uphill battle retaining control of Crawley Borough Council. We were expecting we would lose control of the town hall.”

Regarding Labour’s performace at a national level, Mr Smith said: “The big issue is that Labour are not making ground here in Crawley or nationally.

“UKIP are definitely a factor - people are clearly registering their protest with regards to mainstream political parties.”

As for his chances in next year’s General Election, he said: “I’ve been in Crawley politics for 20 years and I’m well aware of the marginality of Crawley. Whilst I’m not complacent, I’m quietly confident.”
