Crawley’s police chief has called for calm on social media after officers were called to a brawl involving up to 50 youths.

Seven people aged 14 to 48 were arrested after the fight broke out in Dorsten Square, Bewbush, at around 7.45pm on Sunday (July 27).

There were reports of baseball bats and stones being used as weapons.

A spokesman for the South East Coast Ambulance Service said a woman and a teenager were taken to East Surrey Hospital, one suffering head injuries.

Crawley District Commander Chief Inspector Justina Beeken said: “I would urge everybody who is using social media to help calm the situation.”

She added: “I don’t believe it’s gang related - there’s an underlying issue two groups have fallen out about.

“We are trying to get to the bottom of that.”
