Crawley surgery meets every requirement in inspection

A GP surgery has met every requirement in its latest inspection.

Southgate Surgery’s recent Care Quality Commission (CQC) report, published on April 9, stated the surgery is meeting CQC’s set requirements in all five areas of inspection.

The areas were: for treating people with respect, providing care and treatment which meets users’ needs, caring for people safely and protecting them from harm, quality and suitability of management, and staffing.

Southgate Surgery provides general medical services to a population of approximately 8,500 people. There are six general practitioners (GPs), four practice nurses, one health care assistant and a phlebotomist.

Inspectors saw evidence that the practice undertook annual surveys of patients’ views and acted upon any criticisms raised.

The report stated: “For example, the 2013 patient survey highlighted patients’ concern over the length of time it took for telephone calls to be answered.

“We saw evidence that the practice had implemented a number of measures to reduce the waiting time as a result.”

It also noted that the surgery had an established Patient Participation Group which helped to create a “constant dialogue”.

Inspectors spoke with four patients who were also members of the practice’s Patient Participation Group (PPG).

It was reported that the patients spoke positively about the services the practice provided.

The report said the patients described the practice as “very supportive, caring and co-operative.”

It said: “They told us about how the practice had worked with them to improve services and provide regular education and “well-being” events for patients.”

It added that all of the patients spoke positively about the care and treatment provided by the practice.

They described the doctors and nursing staff as “compassionate” and “very professional and very caring.”

One staff member told inspectors: “I love it here. Everybody is really professional and supportive.”

The practice was also complimented for offering appointments until 8pm on Mondays and between 9am and 10.30am on Saturdays to help those patients who work normal working hours.
