Nursery staff were delighted when Ofsted inspectors gave them a rating of ‘good’ – an improvement on their previous report.
The Rainbow Nursery, based at Crawley Hospital, West Green, is one of three managed by Sussex Community NHS Trust (SCT) and was inspected in March.
The report, which was published on Wednesday (July 9), praised staff for the relationship they had established with the children and the safety of the environment in which the nursery was run.
The report stated: “The atmosphere of the nursery is purposeful as staff plan activities to meet children’s interests and needs across all areas of learning.
“As a result, children of all ages make good progress in all areas of their learning and development.”
Cara Mitchell, nursery manager at SCT, said: “We are delighted to be recognised so positively in this way.
“I’m thrilled for our nursery staff who work so hard and are passionate about the quality of care we deliver.
“As the Ofsted inspector remarked, the children at our Rainbow Nursery are happy, confident and active learners as a result of the good relationships they have with our nursery staff.
“We offer a safe and secure environment for the children in our care and our staff plan and identify the children’s individual needs and interests.”
Hayley Lloyd, senior nursery nurse at the Rainbow Nursery, added: “We are extremely proud of our achievements, and are pleased that all our rewarding work has been recognised.”
Inspectors felt unable to give the nursery an ‘outstanding’ rating due to minor issues with the children’s assessment records, some of which made it “difficult to demonstrate children’s good rate of progress”.
But the report was an improvement on the previous inspection, which was carried out three years ago.
That inspection called for improvements when it came to staffing ratios, the maintaining of a fire log book and the organisation of children during snack and meal times.
Anneka Sawyer, deputy manager at the nursery, said: “We’ve made a number of changes in the past two years that have really helped us to make improvements at the nursery.
“We updated the layout of the play area and have had a garden makeover so the children now have more space to play.
“Our staff continue to develop their skills and we encourage creativity and a flexible approach to play and care.”
