Drivers blast new roundabout
Motorists have criticised the new layout of a road in Haywards Heath, claiming it could cause a major accident.
Since the new roundabout on the busy Oathall Road was completed on December 21, residents and drivers have voiced serious concerns about safety.
Steve Skinner, a taxi driver in Haywards Heath, regularly travels along Oathall Road and Oathall Avenue. He said: "They have moved the outer lines back and anyone pulling out is hoping there is nothing coming along the road.
"If you wait at the line you cannot see cars coming until the last moment. Cars are going to plough through anyone pulling out.
"It is dangerous, especially for people who are coming out of Oathall Avenue because they are completely blind to anything coming up the road. It was always a difficult junction as the whole profile of the road is wrong."
Mr Skinner added: "On the Friday when they opened the road there were not enough signs, just a small sign saying altered road layout. I have seen two car accidents there already. I phoned the police regarding the new layout and they said it was not a police matter.
"It seems we have to wait before somebody is actually killed before it is changed."
A spokesperson for West Sussex County Council said that the area will be checked during a full safety audit of the scheme. This is due to take place early in the year.
