Drought is declared in West Sussex
WEST SUSSEX is officially in a state of drought, according to the Environment Agency.
In parts of south east England groundwater levels are lower than the dry summer of 1976, according to Environment Secretary Caroline Spelman.
Water companies may bring in hosepipe bans from early spring where necessary, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) added.
South east England received just two-thirds of the long-term average rainfall for January.
