Dyer and Hassan's DJ project set for Crawley

A DJ is hoping to turn the fortunes of young people around by using the power of dance music and celebrities.

Former Thomas Bennett pupil Wayne Eldridge, 34, linked up with friend Mete Alpsakarya three years ago to form a UK wide organisation called Dance Aid which has raised 300,000 for charity by running club night events for everyday clubbers as well as celebrities.

Actors Danny Dyer and Tamer Hassan are just two big names who are fully behind the cause which donates 100 per cent of its profits to charities such as Great Ormand Street Hospital and Action for Children's Charity.

And although former Broadfield man Wayne admits he was no angel as a teenager, he said Dance Aid will soon be able to give bored teenagers the opportunity to turn their life around like he was able to.

He said: "Dance Aid will become a registered charity this year and we are going to be opening schools funded by us. Wherever we visit with an event we will leave a dance class for young people to go and we are set to visit Crawley.

"We want to take these people off the streets and leave them with something they want to do.

"When I was living in Crawley it was great for seven to 13 year-olds but between the ages of 13 and 18 there was nothing for people to do.

"Drugs were a problem here and we want to show people that they can get away from that.

"It's the people on the streets that we are trying to provide for."

Wayne moved to London 15 years ago where he has made a name for himself as a DJ and he is now hoping to bring something back to the place where he grew up.

The DJ Factory, which is the brainchild of Wayne, Mete, Danny and Tamer, is a separate event to Dance Aid and will launch in the UK in Crawley at The 107 Club on July 31.

Wayne added: "The idea of this is to bring a London club night to places that might never experience it with top DJs and celebrities.

"We have Marcella Woods singing all night at 107 and she will raise the roof on the club."
