Fears of bus crash couple

A COUPLE whose home was virtually destroyed by a fastway bus thought history was being repeated when they heard another bus crash outside.

Eric and Linda Swatton's Bewbush house was so badly damaged in the 2005 smash that it had to be demolished - leaving them homeless for ten months.

And Eric, 63, from Hassocks Court, said he was waiting for the walls to fall in for a second time when he heard another Fastway Metrobus hit a lamp post on Breezehurst Drive at 5:10am on Monday.

He said: "The first thing I said when I saw the bus this morning was 'oh no not again!' I mean you don't expect these things to happen twice! I mean it was a drastically smaller accident to the orignal one. But it still brought back a lot of terrifying memories. We were fast asleep and then we heard a scraping noise and a bang.

"It sounded like something had crashed and it looked like the driver had mounted the path. I could see the driver sitting in his seatand he was visibly shocked. he was just sitting there in his seat and not moving"

There was no passengers on board the pranged bus and the shaken driver didn't require hospital treatment.

A spokeswoman from Metrobus said: "No other vehicles were involved in the incident. The bus had been driving out of service on its way to start its duty so there were no passengers on board. Curently we are investigating what happened by looking at CCTV from the bus and we will be interviewing the driver in due course."
