An application has been made to create a ‘flagship’ KFC restaurant and drive-thru at Gatwick Airport.

Gatwick Airport Ltd and Cobra Restaurants Ltd have applied to build the eatery on the exit road from the South terminal - Ring Road North.

The design and access statement, by architect Ghost, says that the building would have a green sloping roof ‘to create an almost seamless view into the sky’.

The statement explains the aim of the contemporary design is to create a building ‘that will stand comfortably among the surrounding landscaped woodland area’.

The application went to Crawley Borough Council on March 12.

The expected decision date is April 7.
